As a non-native Oregonian, I have learned the hard way that it is not so popular to be happy about rain in the summer. But it has been so painfully, dangerously dry this summer that I can’t help but be thrilled to see rain. I find myself distracted from my indoor work (touching up weather-worn hive bodies, like a good beekeeper), smiling at the dim, watery light coming through the trees. The bees are mostly at home today, but maybe when the sun comes back, they will find the flowers just a little more generously supplied.
Yay rain! I wish it’d make the yellow jackets stay home.
Indeed! They seem bad this year. More spring YJ queen trapping is in order for me next year!
